Remarkable is a copy of Yves de Paris’s Astrologiae nova methodus in the third edition from 1658 (Lot 34). This astrological work contains 5 volvella‑like illustrations used with threads.
Following the desription in the catalogue the two earlier editions of his astrological work still contained 10 volvelles, with which the author partly calculated gloomy political forecasts for countries such as France, England, and Spain. Protests from these countries prompted Yves to remove the relevant passages from the reprint issued in the year of the first edition (1654) and to remove an additional five of the ten astrological models in the third edition (1658). The remaining accessible copies of the first edition were also burned to avert the fulfillment of the prophecies.
